Thriving for More than a Decade

Sponsors have the opportunity to develop a meaningful relationship with their child. This story comes from a sponsor whose friendship has been sustained for more than a decade.

“I have been sponsoring Manuel for more than 10 years and have had the opportunity to visit him three times. He is a wonderfully intelligent and shy young man who wants to go on to college and become a doctor. According to his school principal he is the best in his class and called the ‘humble man’.

“His parents both passed away from AIDS and his grandmother is currently caring for him and nine other children. The financial contribution I make to help with education and health is far less significant than the contribution he has made to my life. Seeing him grow and thrive over the many years has been one of the most rewarding experiences in my life. And helping him believe in himself, the possibilities of life, and in having hope when there would appear to be little reason has been an incredible reminder to me about what really matters in this world.”

Manuel's sponsorship has changed his life forever. ACT supports these grass-roots community efforts in Rakai, Uganda that directly impact women and children suffering from the social and economic ravages of AIDS. Change is happening. Be a part of it.
